“A Better Solution! ”                                                                                                                                      [Oct 2007]

The DCV Board of Directors has voted to adopt a new modus operandi in order to achieve its’ goal of assisting orphans and disadvantaged children to access education, shelter and food while helping to alleviate poverty in the area.

Instead of housing orphaned or otherwise homeless children on the school campus, a new, more sustainable model has been initiated by which the children are placed in Guardian Homes, called DC Homes in a partnership with DC Village.

Children will reside with their Guardians and DCV will continue to provide free education and meals at the Delta Development School. Low interest loans will be offered to DC Homes to assist Guardians in developing small business and entrepreneurial ventures.

It is expected that by providing development opportunities, a DC Home will be in a better position to care for the needs of the child/children. In time, DCV may initiate building DCV Homes that will be sold or leased to the guardians of needy children. These homes will be called DCV Mortgage Homes. In the end DCV hopes to partner with several DC Homes in the area.

“A Day We Won’t Soon Forget”                                                                                                                                      [Mar 2007]

Monday the 26th of March will be remembered at DCV as a very bad day! The first rainfall of the year was accompanied by hurricane force winds which tore the roof off and caused structural damage to the old classroom block and one new adjoining classroom. Accompanying rains laid waste to books, writing materials, teacher’s records and numerous bags of stored cement.

Luckily, only two injuries were sustained, one which required medical attention.

A new roof has been installed and repairs to the structure completed while the students are on a timely Easter break. Donations of building materials and new roofing sheets were made by concerned family members of the Founder.
