“New Dormitories for DC Village”                                                                                                                                      [Mar 2007]

Delta Childrens Village has recently began admitting orphans and more needy children into the village.

The dormitories called 'Child Care Centre' now accommodates eleven orphans between the ages of 6 to 12 years.

In a related development, an electrification project undertaken by the village has come to its final stage seeing the village now with electrical power which enables the children to enjoy night studies, weekend entertainment and all electrical amenities.

The move to include more needy children came as a result of many homeless children being admitted into the village school last year. The children who are mainly from the Weija vicinity lack access to education, food and basic needs.

The headmistress of the school Madam Hilda Ahiable said. "We are doing all we can to make the village a better home, not only for the needy children but the entire community." Ongoing financial support of the village and the school is needed for these programs and activities to continue over time.  Means by which the village may become more self sufficient in the future are being explored to find methods that best suit the village needs and it's resources.

Ms Hilda AhiableThe Founder of the village, Mr. Ken Obeng is making an appeal to organizations, corporations, NGO's, international volunteers and individuals from all walks of life to come to the aid of the village. "The door is open, there are lands and various natural resources in the village, your sponsorships to develop these are warmly welcomed" said Mr. Ken Obeng.

“4-storey classroom block under construction in DCV-Ghana”.                                                                                         [Nov 2006]

A four storey building project has been initiated by Delta Childrens Village in Weija, a suburb of Accra. The Building when completed will serve as a complex to house JSS classrooms, additional space for orphanage use and staff and volunteer quarters.

The project coordinator for the village  Ms Hannah Nyamekye says, "the project aims at catering to about eight hundred needy school children in the Weija community. Currently because of inadequate classrooms for the children, DCV is only able to accommodate about two hundred children and we are glad this problem is being addressed". “Two Children Adopted”.   [Jun 2006]

Two children from the Prampram vicinity have been adopted by Delta Childrens Villages following an appeal by the headmistress of Anumra Day Care Centre.

The headmistress, Madam Georgina Iba Ishatu said the move by the Village has come at right time since the day care center has been suffering from inadequate funding and staffing for the past 12 months following an attempts to halt activities in the school by session of the staff  in their cry for increase in salary.

Madam Georgina Iba Ishatu said, the problem was as a result of lack of funds for the day care centre.

Most of the children who were initially adopted by the school had to be pulled out prior to the crisis.
