THIS AND THAT.
The DCV Board of Directors has
voted to adopt a new modus operandi. Instead of housing
orphaned or otherwise homeless children on the school
campus, a new, more sustainable model has been initiated
by which the children are placed in Guardian Homes,
called DC Homes in a partnership with DC
Village. Children will reside with their Guardians and
DCV will continue to provide free education and meals at
the Delta Development School.
Low interest loans will be offered
to DC Homes to assist Guardians in developing small
business and entrepreneurial ventures. It is expected
that by providing development opportunities, that a
DC Home will be in a better position to care for the
needs of the child/children.
[March/April, 2007]
Projects at Delta Childrens Village are ongoing and new project and program lists are
growing! Since the last update in February school lands for sports and recreation have
been cleared and leveled and real grass is currently being planted.
A school bus of sorts has been hired and is shuttling children in several rounds to and
from the school to their villages and neighborhoods. We are looking for a real school bus
and will begin our quest this week to locate one and then figure out how to procure it.
The kitchen is fully staffed, hard at work and preparing meals for 250 children
a day. The kitchen staff is working well with what they have but have requested a list of kitchen
items that would make their work easier and more efficient.
The new administrative office is finished, complete with desks, computer/printer and
soon to be phone line and broadband internet access, which will allow for more effective
net working and communications. Our Founder Ken Obeng finally has a much deserved
desk.
Two full time marketing personnel have been added to the DCV staff and are working on
a commission basis to solicit monetary donations, as well as goods and services.
Dorinda Kline, a voluntary program development specialist from the United States is
working part time to develop an international volunteer program, cultural enrichment
programs and a teachers training to train teachers in phonetic reading. She will also work
in the areas of research and proposal writing.
